Together with students at the City University of New York (CUNY) and local artists, I co-produced creative, critical projects to challenge the privatisation of public universities and move towards educational justice. Inspired and guided by the processes and visions of Occupy Wall Street, we in particular interrogated the actions of campus surveillance and security, and experimented with making radical, democratic learning communities. Projects included the creation of guerilla theater pieces (like this one along Fifth Avenue in New York City to name and challenge the ‘marriage’ of public education and policing), street rallies, sit-ins & teach-ins, posters & flyers, and the Free University in a public park in Manhattan.
